When you take a defensive driving course online, a copy of your Texas driving record may be required by the court. A Texas driving record report provides a history of violations, suspensions and other details about your driving history.

You'll need to research where you had received your traffic ticket, but most courts require a copy of your Texas driver record to show you have successfully completed the course. The court that has jurisdiction over your traffic ticket will depend on the law enforcement agency that issued the ticket and the location where you received your ticket.

Order Your Driver Record at the Texas DPS

You may order your driver record from the Texas Department of Public Safety for $12.00. You'll just need to know your; 1. Drivers License Number, 2. Date of Birth, 3. Last 4 Digits of SSN and 4. the DPS Audit Number.

Note: The following type of Driver Record will be required when processing your website application at the Texas DPS:

• Certified List of All Accidents and Violations in Record (Type 3A): certified version of Type 3. IMPORTANT: This record is acceptable for Defensive Driving Course (DDC) - Price $12.00.

You must complete the defensive driving course and submit your Certificate of Completion and your Texas driver record, if required, to the court where you received your traffic ticket prior to the deadline.

In Austin, Garland, and San Antonio, Texas may obtain a driver record report the same day of your request at the following locations:

Lower Your Insurance Rates by as much as 10%

A copy of your Texas driving record can also be helpful if you would like to lower your insurance rates. Taking a defensive driving course and providing a copy of your driving record to your insurance provider may lower your insurance rates by as much as 10% for a three-year period.
