Do You Qualify for Traffic Ticket Dismissal?

If you have not dismissed a traffic ticket in the last 12 months, Aware Driver is the perfect course for you! In the state of Texas, you may take a defensive driving course once every 12 months to dismiss a traffic ticket.

You MUST request permission to take the course for ticket dismissal, in person or by mail, by the appearance date shown on your ticket. Once permission is granted, you'll have 90 days to complete the defensive driving course online and submit your certificate of completion to the court.

You must submit the following items when requesting permission to take the defensive driving course for ticket dismissal:

Completed copy of the Affidavit form with signature notarized.
Proof of valid non-commercial Texas driver’s license.
Court administrative fee.
Copy of your insurance policy.

To qualify for a ticket dismissal course, Texas law requires the following:

You must NOT possess a Commercial Drivers License (CDL).
You must admit guilt or sign a statement that you do not contest the citation.
You must NOT have been cited for driving 25 MPH or more above the posted speed limit.

Note: The court has the final decision on whether you'll be permitted to dismiss your ticket with a defensive driving course.

What about my Driver Record?

Depending on the county in which you received your traffic ticket, you may need to send a copy of your Driver Record to the court with your Certificate of Completion. If you don't have a copy of your Driver Record, the ticket dismissal process may be delayed.

Do you have a Commercial Driver's License (CDL)?

If you have a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), you may not take a defensive driving course for ticket dismissal.

A defensive driving course provides information to drivers who receive a traffic ticket about the true cost of their unsafe driving behavior.
